Peoples Bank is excited to introduce a new customer identification service to better protect your accounts and personal information.

Beginning in May, we’ll be adding a few simple steps to our authentication process when handling incoming calls and requests over the phone.

For some transactions or requests, our new process may include verifying your mobile device with a safe and secure text message. We’ll simply send you a secure link, and when processed, our systems will authenticate that you are genuinely calling from the same device, or that you are the actual owner of that cell phone. This service allows us to outwit fraudsters using "spoofing" technology, and it is a reliable method to protect customer information and accounts. If you do not have a cell phone, then some transactions may require enhanced security questions to further authenticate callers.

Remember, it’s only acceptable to click on a link or respond to a text message or email when you have initiated the phone call or request to the bank. Peoples Bank will never call you unexpectedly and ask for your personal information or passwords. If you are ever unsure of a call or request, simply hang up and contact Peoples Bank through a publicly available phone number.

Please help us protect your accounts by allowing our Customer Support Representatives to identify callers safely and securely using these new services when needed.

What is Spoofing?

Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to indicate to the receiver of a call that the originator of the call is a station other than the true originating station. This can lead to a caller ID display showing a phone number different from that of the telephone from which the call was placed. Ultimately, Caller ID is NOT a reliable way to verify the authenticity of a caller.
