Peoples Bank, Roger Jobs Motors and Byron Sprague Donate $30,000 to Provide AEDs for Bellingham Police

Bellingham, WA - June 26, 2019 - A big donation is equipping Bellingham police with tools to save more lives on the go.


Peoples Bank, Roger Jobs Motors and Byron Sprague gave the Bellingham Police Department $30,000 to purchase 21 automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, to be placed in patrol cars for medical emergencies.

The idea to incorporate AEDs into Bellingham police officer toolkits came after an incident that occurred in April 2018 where citizen suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while BPD officers were on scene for an unrelated matter. Read More...

"To not have a piece of equipment you need and be waiting for a rig to show up with it is tough," said Ty Elmendorf, Bellingham Police Officer. In this case, that piece of equipment is a portable defibrillator or AED. The devices can shock someone back to life if they are in cardiac arrest. This donation allowed for the purchase of AED's to be placed in all Bellingham Police Department marked patrol cars, putting multiple AED's in the field for quick access in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.
