Bellingham, WA — Peoples Bank announced today a donation of $20,000 to local nonprofits dedicated to disaster relief in response to the recent historic flooding in the Pacific Northwest. The donation includes $10,000 to the Whatcom Community Foundation’s Whatcom Resilience Fund and $10,000 to the Skagit Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund. These funds will help provide immediate assistance and long-term recovery support for individuals and families impacted by the floods.
According to NBC News, as many as 100,000 Washington residents have been asked to evacuate their homes following unprecedented flooding caused by storms that dumped up to 16 inches of rain on parts of the state last week. More rain is expected in the coming days, compounding the challenges faced by communities across the region.
“Supporting our neighbors during times of crisis is at the heart of our mission,” said Derek Thornton, Chief Financial Officer of Peoples Bank. “We are proud to partner with the Whatcom and Skagit Community Foundations to provide critical resources for disaster relief and recovery. Together, we can help families and businesses rebuild and restore their lives.”
In addition to these donations, Peoples Bank is offering special loan programs to assist those affected by the flooding. These programs include low-interest loans and deferred payment options designed to help homeowners, businesses, and farmers recover from flood-related damages. More information about these assistance programs can be found here.
